In 2022, after earning his Research Master’s from Imperial College of London, Dylan Patel was recruited by Remo Ruffini, the CEO of Moncler, to build the company’s heritage department based on his unique knowledge and personal archive of the brand that fully represented its history from 1952 to 2002.
As an archivist, his responsibility is to bring structure back to the memory of fashion houses by utilising primary research. In studying the roots and DNA, we can unlock their hidden value, thereby leveraging their archives for market sensibility by finding the right balance between relevance and timelessness.
However, companies must also be mindful not to abuse this power, the consequences of which will be felt from the managers of the organisation to their most loyal customers. Dylan’s prediction for the future is that creating value in heritage will increase an organisation’s valuation in the marketplace, in turn creating superior shareholder value and resilience in the face of global crisis.
